Duke remains No. 1 in latest USA TODAY men’s basketball poll

A big win against then-No. 2 Michigan State has bolstered Duke’s hold on No. 1 in the latest USA TODAY men’s basketball poll.

Duke strengthened its grip on the No. 1 ranking it held in the preseason poll. The Blue Devils’ 4-0 start includes last week’s victory in Chicago against then-No. 2 Michigan State. They received 29 first-place votes from the panel of 32 coaches this week.

Kansas, which defeated Kentucky at the same event, moves up to No. 2 and picked up two first-place nods. Villanova checks in at No. 3 and claimed the remaining No. 1 vote. Michigan State slips to fifth behind No. 4 Arizona. Kentucky slides four positions to No. 8.

Joining the poll is No. 19 Texas A&M on the strength of a decisive win against West Virginia. Also entering is No. 25 Virginia, which edged out Alabama for the 25th spot despite the Crimson Tide also starting 3-0.
